Favourite 'Sweet Eats' of 2017

Unlike the years before 2017, my makan buddies and I would deliberately seek out specialised dessert places after our meals but that has stopped since the beginning of last year.  It's a combination of reasons but mainly because we now usually meet over dinner (instead of brunch or lunch) and, by the time we finish, most of the dessert houses would have closed.

Plus, my friends like to whine, oops..I mean (sip) wine nowadays.  Also, I'm not much of a sweet-toothed person and I try not to partake in too much sugary stuff.  So desserts these days are limited to just one or two after dinner from the same dinner place.  Thus, my favourite 'sweet eats' of 2017 will be a very short...and sweet list! ;)

Kompassion II (or K2) @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail

This beloved Thai dessert of mango sticky rice is made with brown sticky rice instead and executed differently here.  The contrast of the hot sticky rice (with creamy santan) against the cold pandan gelato and sweet mangoes made this an awesome mouthful. ^o^

The light lime mango cheesecake with fresh cubes of sweet mango and mango puree was satisfying too.

Ra.Ft Cafe @ Lorong Binjai

The best tiramisu I've had is found right here...a slice of sheer happiness.  Every bite is worth the calories! ;-)  And folks who can't come down to the city centre can now rejoice that a new branch is opened at Arcoris Plaza, Mont Kiara. ^.^

Acme Bar & Coffee @ Pavilion Elite

It's a dessert that comes with a bit of entertainment.  Watch the hot coconut brownie sizzling away in the hot plate as a gula melaka sauce is poured over it.  The contrast of the cold nangka ice cream against the hot brownie is what makes this so divine. ^_^

Birch @ Damansara City Mall

Coming from a non-cheese fan, I'm sure you're surprised to find it on the list but it did as it was a cheesecake that even I could enjoy (+ my friends vouch for its taste).  Baked fresh daily, the burnt cheesecake is velvety smooth and light but rich in flavour.  There's a hint of sweetness from the charred outer layer.  One slice is not enough (according to my friends).

El Iberico @ Pavilion

I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice dessert here, a traditional Spanish almond cake made wholly from ground almonds, eggs and sugar.  Texture-wise, it was different...but deliciously different.

2nd Floor Kitchen & Bar @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Fans of chocolate & coffee...rejoice!  You can satisfy both your cravings in one dessert.  Luscious and sensual, have yourself a melting moment! ^.^

But if you like something more zesty, the tantalising passion fruit mousse with semi-sweet coconut anglaise and marshmallow will be just as pleasurable.

See, I told you it'd be a very short list.  You're welcome to check out my sweet list from 2016.  So, what were some of the memorable sweet stuff that sweetened your lips last year? ^_~

  1. I picked the worst time ever to read this post. I'm having a cup of coffee and now want every single thing in your photos to go with it. ;-)

  2. Nice! I always look forwards to dessert, in fact that's what I check out first in the menu. And hey, I was at 2nd Floor yesterday and tried the passion fruit mousse. Quite unlike anything I have tried before. Will blog about it soon. And thanks for the heads up on Raft's new branch. Must pay them a visit and I hope they are as good as the main branch.

    1. I'm eager to read what you thought of the dessert at 2nd Flr. I'm glad there's now a Ra.Ft nearer you and hope you get to try it soon :)

  3. 2nd Floor's desserts look great - i haven't tried both of those two desserts yet, but they look like the comfort food of desserts - here's wishing you more sweet-tooth experiences in 2018, both in quality and quantity :)
