Ratha Raub @ Damansara Uptown

We've been patronising Ratha Raub @ Damansara Uptown quite a few times, usually at breakfast times (coz that's the time we're in the area), for their nasi lemak and roti...and the occasional fried chicken and curry chicken (you can read my previous write-ups here and here).

They're rather famous for their signature fried lamb, which has garnered many positive reviews, but I've not had the chance to try since their lunch dishes aren't available until at least 11.30 am.  So, imagine my surprise (during my last visit) that they're now available earlier in the mornings (I think it was around 10.30 am when I was there).

I immediately ordered a piece of Fried Lamb (Kambing Goreng) @ RM11.65.  I don't usually eat lamb as I dislike the gamey taste but I just had to try this one after seeing that many sang praises of it (including my husband).  Well, what do you know....I enjoyed it very much as the spice rub dominated the lamb (in a good way) and I managed to detect only a very slight gamey taste.  The seasoning and spice rub made the lamb slices very fragrant and the meat, thin and lean with bits of fat, rendered them rather tender and not chewy or dry at all.

Since lunch dishes were available for ordering in the morning, I couldn't resist having the Fried Squid (Sotong Goreng) @ RM11.70 as well.  When it arrived though, I wasn't very impressed with the looks of it and I thought it wouldn't be very nice as the batter looked kinda thick.  But I was so wrong...I should have known better than to judge a book by its cover! ^_~  The batter was crunchy and flavourful...and the squid tender and fragrant from being fried with curry leaves (probably one of the more tender squid I've had the privilege of eating from a mamak restaurant).

We also spotted these Onion 'Pakodas' (Indian Vegetable Fritters) @ RM2.70 (for 2 pcs) at the counter.  These ones didn't turn out as good as I had hoped as the onions lacked the sweetness that I seek.

Apart from these, we had our usual orders of Nasi Lemak @ RM3.50 with its fragrant coconut milk-laden rice, served with a whole hard-boiled egg and a crispy, good quality ikan bilis.

We also had the Murtabak Ayam @ RM7.55 (my husband seems to like this) and Pulut Sambal @ RM3.50 (available on weekends only).

I couldn't resist ordering their Roti Canai @ RM1.80 again as the one here is really good...crispy on the edges with a soft and fluffy texture (certainly ranks among some of the best roti canai I've had eaten).

It was served with two separate plates of curries....dhal and chicken curry, so it's well worth the price.  The chicken curry is always delicious and the dhal (this time) was even better, very smooth and loaded with softened vegetables.

My Personal Opinion

This place never fails to satisfy us and remains one of our favourite Indian/Muslim restaurants.  Must-try dishes include the fried lamb, fried squid, fried chicken, chicken curry, nasi lemak and roti canai (in no particular order).  Oops, did I just name almost everything I've eaten here? ^_*

  4. I am also a weekly regular to this restaurant I like their cleanliness, fast service and easy parking when you know the hours.
I often eat their roti chanai and susu lembu nescafe! After makan I always felt so happy like a child. My neighbourhood folks often go there every morning to tapao their roti chanai by hundreds to be shared with colleagues or families at breakfast.
