Favourite 'Cheap Eats' of 2015

After my previous list of favourite 'nice eats' of 2015, here's my favourite 'cheap eats' of 2015 where one can get some good food at wallet-friendly prices!

BBQ Kong Meng @ Taman Maju Jaya

Glorious, glorious Roast Duck with tender meat and super crispy skin that's bathe in hot oil just before serving.....their top seller!

Wet Market @ Pandan Perdana

Sometimes the simplest and tastiest of food is found in wet markets and the chee cheong fun, curry puffs and glutinous rice dumplings here are certainly that.

Sun Fatt Kee @ Seapark PJ

Although the shop is more well-known for their Sisters' Curry Laksa, it was the Teochew Porridge that stole my heart with an extensive array of mouth-watering dishes to pair with your porridge (or rice).  Must-have dishes...the salted vegetables and spicy la-la.

Nasi Lemak Tanglin @ Jalan Cenderasari

Not the most comfortable of dining places but their Nasi Lemak is top-notch.  With fluffy santan-infused steamed rice, super tender sotong, delicious sambal and a lovely crumbed egg....one plate is never enough!

Win Heng Seng @ Jalan Imbi

Famous for its "sam kan chong" noodles with one of the smoothest "hor fun" around and delicious "siew cheong".  Or order a Teochew Char Kway Teow with good "wok hei" and well charred noodles for a smoky flavour.  The pork noodles in a decent broth with all the porky goodies is just as good too! ;)

Tai Zi Ta @ Jalan Imbi

These mini egg tarts (the sames ones from Taman Muda) fly off the trays the moment they're taken out from the oven coz they're freakin' amazing.  Their "siew paus" are no push-overs either.  Get them hot-from-the-oven and you'll be begging for more =)

O & S Restaurant @ Paramount Garden

This is my current favourite glutinous rice dumpling stall...filled with all the essential stuff a chung must have.  You can also get the "kong fu chung" which has the same ingredients just that the glutinous rice is whiter (in a very light shade of brown).

A recent new addition to the many stalls here, the Indian Rojak with its super tender Malay-style "sotong" and crunchy prawn fritter in a kick-ass rojak sauce is worthy of mention too.

Annie 1 @ Damansara Uptown

Top of the list for me is the Curry Laksa Supreme with a very good laksa broth and generously laden ingredients...but the best ingredient in this bowl is the well caramelised "char siew".  This is a supreme bowl alright...both in taste and size!  Or have the Menglembu Wantan Mee with the same meaty but tender, thick cuts of char siew in a flavourful black sauce and wash it all down with a good, frothy cup (or glass) of Ipoh White Coffee.

Ratha Raub @ Damansara Uptown

Famed for its Fish Head Curry and Raub Chicken Curry that looks diluted but packs tonnes of flavour.  Their Raub Fried Chicken with fragrant and crispy skin and moist and succulent meat was equally outstanding.  Have them with a plate of their more-than-decent Raub Nasi Lemak and you won't need a road trip to Raub to satisfy your cravings! ;-D

And that's my rather short list of favourite 'cheap eats' of 2015!  Hmmm...looks like I've not eaten that much (new and good) "coffee shop" food this past year.  For a trip down memory lane, you can find out what were my favourite 'cheap eats' of 2014 by clicking on the link.

  4. I have been to 4 of your 9 eateries in this list. The duck meat looks really good - thick and meaty duck breast meat = tasty!
