Secret Garden #2 - Tree House

Fresh from my first masterpiece, Enter My Secret Garden, here comes my second piece aptly named.....Tree House.
Maybe I should call it My Imaginary Tree House since I live in Malaysia and in Malaysia we don't have tree houses...or, at least, we don't have parents building tree houses for their kids! ;)
But I bet it's a cool place for children to hang out growing up.

Blank Canvas

Work in Progress #1

Work in Progress #2

Tip #4 - A bird cage is meant to be see-through but if you want it to have a colour, you can do so by drawing random lines of colour to give it the illusion of colour but yet maintain that see-through effect.

P/S:  Can you spot Cookie in the tree house? ^_*

Work in Progress #4

Tip #5 - When you have very tiny artwork to colour (like the leaves on this tree), it's impossible to do any shading but you can give it life by colouring it with a combination of different colours that blend together.

Work in Progress #5

Tip #6 - You can certainly add your own touches to the artwork to make yours different from the rest.  Here, I simply added some grass at the bottom of the tree trunk.

Finally, my Tree House is finished!

The most challenging part of this piece to colour were the leaves as they were so small (and plentiful).  You can choose to do this in two ways....the easy way would be to go totally unsystematic (freestyle) and colour the leaves randomly with your selected colours or go the more difficult route (like I did) and use the same colours on the corresponding half of the tree for consistency and symmetry.

This second piece took a much shorter time to complete coz the overall drawing is much smaller and I didn't have to colour the entire page like the previous one.

It's such a wonderful feeling to have when you finally get to see your completed work.....and it spurs you on to your next piece!

  1. Wow! It's lovely! No doubt you have an artistic streak in you. I particularly like the close up shot of WIP #3. I am drawn to the potted plants (so intricately colored) and ...hey...Cookie is in it too :D

    1. Those potted plants were really tiny to colour ^.^

  2. This piece is more colourful than the previous one. Nice! Cookie is in there too though I need to reread Cookie's posts to refresh my memory on his colours. From your colouring principles of symmetry and consistency, you must be a very systematic, structured and orderly person.

    1. If I didn't colour Cookie right, then that wouldn't be Cookie!

  3. if you added some birds inside the bird cages, cookie might be even happier (right now he looks quite content enough though, perched on the window sill) ;) i'm impressed by the piece ... it seems to deserve to be framed on your home wall! :)

    1. As much as I'd like to frame my completed pieces, that wouldn't be practical as there'll be too many pieces to hang on the wall once I'm done! :(

  4. Maybe you can break the duck by building a tree house for your kid. Or your kid's kid. For me that would be easier than coloring a tree house. For me lah...

    1. Maybe you can build one for your kid in future when you have a bungalow with a large compound for a tree! :D

  5. You've selected a nice range of colours - just subtle enough to give a nice splash of vibrance but not over the top.

  6. Wah! I see so many familiar friends leaving comments here. I will be here often ok.

I love Arts very much until I traveled overseas yearly partly to admire their artistic historical buildings! I love what you just drew and it sure brings great joy. I used to study Business Advertising in States where I also dabbled in much paintings of all medias. I love paintings and drawings instead of studying those thick boring books.

    1. Well, hello TM!...I'd welcome your constant visits for sure.

From your blog, I do know you have a love for travelling. But you gave me too much credit. I didn't draw this, I'm not that good...I just coloured it. The drawings are by that famous talented artist Johanna Basford (her colouring books are the rage now).
