#ewew cooks One Pan Breakfast

I first saw this fabulous one-pan fry-up in one of Jamie Oliver's earliest shows (The Naked Chef) where he cooked it after a night out on the town.  He called it his Midnight One Pan Breakfast (you can watch a new version of this on his FoodTube).

I suppose he returned in the wee hours of the morning and needed some grub as a perfect wake-me-up call. The rest of us, I'm not so sure if we'd even be bothered to cook something.  We'd probably just crawl into the bed and wake up late the next morning....haha! ;)  So, I'm just going to call this my One Pan Breakfast.

The reason I made this was because I recently got one of those marble ceramic cookware (a 24cm frying pan) on promotion for RM29.90 as a result of spending a certain amount at Caring.  I've always wanted to know if a ceramic non-stick would work...and I'm glad to report that it does its job wonderfully! ;)  No more Teflon-coated type non-stick cookware (and its questionable safety) for me from now on which I find often gets scratched and discoloured over prolonged use (even the good ones).  I'm very happy with the performance of this new marble ceramic cookware and I'd probably be going out to buy another one soon.

Coming back to this simple One Pan Breakfast that's so easy to assemble, this breakfast dish is perfect for a lazy weekend.  All you need are some rashers of bacon, quality sausages, juicy mushrooms, sweet tomatoes and fresh eggs.

Cut up the bacon and sausages.  Slice the mushrooms (not too thinly please) and halve the cherry tomatoes. Finely snip the chives into small pieces.

Start with a tiny drizzle of olive oil just to get the pan going.  Add your bacon and sausages and fry till they're well browned.

Add the thickly sliced button mushrooms (I used Swiss browns) and saute till soften and lightly browned.

Next, add the cherry tomato halves, cut side down, to get a nice charring.  Make sure you season the tomatoes and mushrooms with salt and freshly cracked black pepper.

Once all the components are cooked, mix everything up, create some space and crack the eggs in (I needed three to cover the surface area of my 24cm pan).  If one of the eggs happen to crack, don't worry, it's not the end of the world.  We know accidents happen in kitchens! :P  Remember to season your eggs too.

Actually the cracked egg works just as well since it's able to run all over the pan and fill the gaps in between to create one giant 'egg pizza'...haha! ;D  Jamie sticks the pan into his outdoor wood fired oven (to cook the eggs) but we can cook it on our stove top just the same.  Sprinkle chopped chives, parsley or coriander (whatever you have) on top when the eggs are almost done.

You can serve it directly in the pan since this is a One Pan Breakfast after all but make sure you remove it from your stove a little sooner (if you prefer your eggs runny) as the heat in the pan will continue to cook the eggs.

Because of the time taken to take the photos, one of the eggs crossed over to the side of being slightly overcooked (and I don't mean the already cracked egg that went into pan)...kikiki! :D

Luckily, there was one runny egg.....still! :P

You can also slide it out of the pan and serve it on a plate.  That way you can at least ensure that the eggs don't overcook.

Perfect for sharing between two (maybe three not-so-hungry people) with a few slices of buttered toast :)  If you have a bigger family....well, you need a bigger pan then...wuahahahaha! ;D

You might even want to eat this giant 'egg pizza' as a main meal with some wild rocket leaves (like I do sometimes). ^o^

Now, who doesn't like a good old-fashioned fry-up?  I know I do.

Serves 2 (perhaps even 3) with buttered toast or 1 as a main meal

  2. I have been eyeing at these marble ceramic pans too. Your testimonial is definitely trusted and I will go look see. Just bought a Tefal wok and it costs a bomb.

    I love your idea of One Pan Breakfast which is easy to make and very appetizing to be shared. The colour is good!

    1. Yes, one pan anything is the best...less washing up to do. I also did not know how good these marble ceramic pans were until I tried. Now I cook with this small 24 cm pan all the time. I need to go out and get a bigger one...hehe! ;)

  3. Oh! I am loving your one pan breakfast! This is even better than the big breakfast I had the other day. I must make my own big breakfast like this. And I am also coveting your ceramic pan wahahaha!! Been eyeing it for some time but I have too many pots and pans in my kitchen already hee..hee.. The fact that you can slide your breakfast in one piece is testament to the non-stick feature of the pan. Very nice! Hey, what do you mean the breakfast is enough for two or three people? I can finish that all by myself hahahahaha!!

It's enough for two (maybe three) if we serve it with loads of buttered toast mah...wuahahahaha! :D Hey, I did say for one if eaten as a main meal (that would be with you in mind, dear...hehe!). Not only do we have almost similar tastebuds, we have similar tastes in cookware too...kekeke! ^_~
