Art Imitates Life?

Sometimes when we see a drawing, we wonder if the pictures are a fiction of the artist's imagination.  Well, I caught Cookie in some similar situations, so I guess that proves there may be some truth in them.

Check out the resemblance...hehe! ;)  Here are some examples of art imitating life...or life imitating art, depend how you see it.  But we're not here to delve on the deeper meaning of that but the simple meaning from a cat's perspective.

Picture #1

This was one of the hardest photos to capture (coz I had to stroke Cookie with one hand and hold my iPhone in my other).  Cats do this (they raise their butt & hind legs) when you stroke their sweet spot.  I found that out by chance....I think they really enjoy being stroked there! O_o  P/S: And oh, don't worry about that injury on Cookie's head (which he got in one of his battles), this photo was from a long time ago.  The injury has healed but the scar remains.

Picture #2

This is Cookie's way of saying "do not disturb" or "leave me alone" when he sits facing away from me...haha!

Picture #3

And yes, cats do sleep with their 4 paws in the air!  Let Cookie demonstrate that for you. ^_*

Luckily, nothing quite like this has happened.....yet! >_<

Picture #4

We all know cats love to squeeze into boxes...the tighter or smaller, the better.

Picture #5

Beside boxes, paper bags are just as good a place as a hideout.

Picture #6

For some reason, cats like to knead their paws against something soft...it can be a pillow, a blanket or even a pile of clothes.  They derive a sense of shiok when they do that and they'll close their eyes when kneading...like it's pure comfort.

Picture #7

That's him being a nuisance when I'm at the computer...as if he's of any help....hihihi! ;)

Picture #8

They like to act innocent when they've done something wrong...who me?  Or look up at you as if to say....wassup? ;P

Picture #9

If you happen to open a drawer, cats are drawn to them and will instinctively jump into one as they're curious (aka kepochi) creatures.

Picture #10

This one is like he's saying I don't have anything worthwhile to do.....I'm bored out of my wits.

Picture #11

Cookie: Stop staring at my ball-ball!  But since you're looking anyway, how do my balls compare? ;D

Picture #12

Ahh, that's what I call a purrfect weekend too....zZzzz...snooze all day long! ^o^

Cookie:  Hmmm, I don't recall giving permission to take these private photos of me or being 'paid' for the publication of them.  Oh I did...what I'd do for a can of luxurious wet food of yellowfin tuna & salmon.  Gosh, I'm so cheap! :P

    1. Thank you, thank you. When I found some of these illustrations, I looked back at some of Cookie's photos and realised there were some similarities, so I started compiling them :)

    1. I have shown him some cat videos before, he don't seem interested at some and some others (those with cat sounds) frighten the hell out of him....haha! :D

  3. Ah...Cookie! I find any post with Cookie in it so delightful! You had me chuckling and when I got to picture #7, I was like, oh no! Well, I am relieved that Cookie has not conquered your bed as yet hee..hee...

Can I ask you a question? I have googled but got conflicting information, so I thought it's best to ask a cat owner I know (hee..hee...). Does Cookie ever bite you? Either playfully (just a gentle chomp) or for real (ouch!). My cat (I think of her as mine for the moment) does that sometimes. She even clawed me once though most of the time she is quite lovey dovey and seems to enjoy me petting her and giving her attention. I still have lots to learn about cats!

    1. That's a good question. But hey, isn't your brother a cat owner too? I'm not very experienced with cats either as Cookie is my first pet. The answer to your question is yes, Cookie has bitten and clawed me before. Sometimes, it's playfully (a gentle chomp on the ankle, they seem to love ankles for some reason) and sometimes it's for real (with a bit of scratched skin but nothing like a forceful bite). It sounds strange, right, when you think your pet will do that to you but I guess cats are not like dogs (they're, after all, from the cat family and they're wild creatures and hunters by nature). So my advice to you is to be careful especially if you don't own the cat and will not know her personality or demeanour. They can turn on their charms sometimes and be aggressive at others, so you need to be able to read their body language...and that's usually from their eyes and ears. When their pupils are dilated (all black) or constricted (into a very thin slit) and ears are turned sideways, back and flat...you have to be careful. You've actually touched on a subject I thought of writing about, so perhaps I'll share some of these stories one day.

    2. Thanks for addressing my question. It comes as a relief to know that Cookie does that too, I mean this in a good way, of course hah..hah... which means it is normal. My brother's cat bites him too and he said that it's either a sign of affection or "don't touch there!". They are so unpredictable. In fact this morning she scratched my slipper (while I was wearing it) and hurt my toe! Yes, do share your observations and experience with Cookie. I am sure other cat lovers would appreciate it too :)

  5. Aaawww! Aaaawww!! So sweet of your Cookie and the matching illustrations. I am not a cat owner but had to baby sit my sister's Ginger Cat from Adelaide and a Persian Cat later in our family home. Now I still have to pop over to feed her 2 cats when she is away. So I could relate much about the feline lifestyles and habits.

Suddenly I got this feeling that her 2 cats were often annoyed with my visits as caretaker because I often fed them very late! Your illustration showed me their annoying signs!

I know they also like to knead on tummies. They also dig the 'earth' on concrete floors to bury something. Silly cats. Muahahahaha

    1. Knead on tummies? Oh no, they have sharp claws! I've always thought that the act of digging on concrete floors meant that they need to go pee or poop..haha! :D Either that or they want to bury their scent.
