Favourite 'Sweet Eats' of 2015

I've come to my final post on my series of my personal favourite foods of 2015 with my favourite 'sweet eats' of 2015, which (incidentally) is a rather short list since I don't indulge in desserts that much (unless it's shared with friends) as I'll have to finish an entire dessert on my own (when dining with family who don't fancy eating sweet things at all).

You could say that I'm more of a 'savoury' person than a 'sweet' person.....no, no, no (that didn't quite come out as well as I intended it to).  So, let me rephrase...I prefer savoury over sweet eats (ah, that sounded loads better)! ;D

Fatbaby Ice Cream

I'm a fan of Fatbaby's ice cream and I absolutely loved the Lemon Blueberry that offers bright, fresh and citrusy flavours...definitely for those who don't like their ice creams sweet.  The classic all-time favourite of Vanilla (made with real vanilla beans) is another great choice for a dose of pure creamy goodness! ;)

I enjoyed the fluffy and not overly sweet Local Pankek with its fragrant pandan and coconut flavour.  The caramelised bananas and toasted coconut flakes add another dimension to the pancake.

Ohla Tapas & Cocktails

The luscious dessert of caramelised bananas with the house-made, intensely flavoured, beautifully quenelled banana ice cream with dark chocolate candies tastes as good as it looks.

Strangers @ Forty 7

Adam's Sin is a sinful little dessert of a sweet crepe with vanilla ice cream and cinnamon infused apple cubes for a marriage of sweet and tart flavours.

'When Tea Meets Coffee' is a meet-up you want to be a part of.  Immensely light and spongy, this jasmine tea infused cake with a shot of coffee caramel is a cake that non-sweet enthusiasts will embrace with glee.

The 'It's Real Banana' Cake is a real banana cake alright with an intense banana flavour and real chunks of banana inside that you'll gladly down a few more pieces of! :D

La Casa

The sweet treats of Mont Blanc and Lemon Tart are bites of pure bliss with lovely pureed chestnut hiding whipped cream in the centre and a smooth, zesty lemon-flavoured curd in a buttery shortbread crust that's ever so luscious and refreshing...double yums :)

But the Sweet Pleasure of Valrhona chocolate is the 'icing on the cake' with not-one-but-three decadent layers of chocolate ganache, chocolate mouse and tempered milk chocolate....now, that's a slice of heaven indeed!

One whiff of their freshly baked scones in nine different flavours makes you feel like a kid in a candy store....which ones to choose?  Have it with the usual clotted cream and strawberry jam or kaya and butter for a localised interpretation.

You don't have to go on a 'wild sheep (or goose) chase' to get your hands on this extremely fluffy, light and airy Vanilla Souffle with a soft, creamy melt-in-your-mouth texture.
It's certainly a thing of beauty and great happiness! ;)

Flingstones

This unique One Night with Cendolman basically mimics eating "cendol" but in cake form...with pleasurable interspersed layers of pandan cake, gula melaka, sago and coconut cream.

And it wasn't possible to end my 'sweet' post without a small (but deserved) mention of some of the wondrous coffees (from Yellow Brick Road, Beam, La Casa & Flingstones), lovely tea (from Wild Sheep Chase), fine mocktails (from Ohla) and refreshing fruit juices (from Iberico & BreadFruits) I had over this past year.

Just like a meal ending with desserts.....it's always nice to end on a sweet note!  And on that note, you may want to check out my favourite 'sweet indulgence' of 2014 to see what sweetened my lips last year.  We all enjoy our sweet escapades every now and then...if only they were guilt-free! ;)

  1. Well, I love desserts, no sharing hah..hah... So I am not a sweet person in that respect, so selfish! I have earmarked Fatbaby Ice Cream and will drop by when I check out Flingstones Cafe.

  3. I have a sweet tooth too, but I'm not those expensive dessert type. I rarely spend a lot of money for high quality desserts. A Magnum ice cream or a Kit-kat will make me very happy already...

    1. Actually, I wouldn't term these as expensive desserts (other than the Ohla one). They're considered normally priced desserts for cafes at around RM10-15.....but it's nice that you're a 'low maintenance' and 'easily satisfied' type of guy...hehe! ;D

  4. i'm also more of a savoury person ... but from start to finish, i think your list is a nice one, filled with some of the klang valley's tastiest crepes, cakes, pancakes, etc :D gosh, i still feel sometimes like we're still in 2015 ... in the sense that even though i know it's 2016, this year feels exactly the same so far as last year, heh :)

    1. I know what you mean....it's 2 weeks to CNY and there's no CNY mood still! We're still hoping it's 2015 so that we don't have to contend with 2016 prices! :D

  5. For someone who does not have a sweet tooth, you sure say tak eat expensive dessert (even when shared, it is still expensive to me). I have been to none of the above mainly because I am like RG (a solero ice cream - RM1 is enough to keep my sweet tooth that pops up occasionally happy).

    1. To me, the desserts are not expensive (see my reply to RG above) and I only eat them 'sparingly' when with friends. I can't very well blog about a RM1 ice cream as I won't have anything to write.

  6. Thanks for the list though. Keep my mouth salivating and knowing what I am missing out there. Will try to make it a point to try out the cendol cake one fine day this year.
