Milkcow @ Mid Valley

Welcome to a new year, people!  Just like how I ended with a 'sweet' post in 2014, I think I'll start the year with another 'sweet' post in 2015...but with quite different outcomes!

I've heard a lot of hype over this newly opened ice cream parlour, Milkcow @ Mid Valley, for some time now, and so, when I was at this mall for breakfast one Sunday morning, I decided to swing by to give it a taste.

This organic soft-serve ice cream specialist is located just opposite Cold Storage.  Their ice creams are reputedly made with premium ingredients of organic milk and natural honey.  As my family members are not that into ice cream, let alone expensive ones, I only had room to try just one (after our earlier breakfast).

From the menu, you can see that they've 11 different ice creams ranging from the cheapest (@ RM8) to the most expensive (@ RM13).  The cheapest one (Milky Way) is the most basic one of just the organic milk soft ice cream.  Then, you've the ones that comes with various toppings of natural honeycomb (Milky Cube), natural liquid honey (Milky Honey), cotton candy & jelly beans (Snow Drop), dark chocolate (Black Pearl), macaron (Macao Dream), oreo cookies & cream (Cookie & Cream), white chocolate (Golden Angel), red beans (Sweet Red Bean) and more.

Just look at all those gorgeous looking honeycomb...that looks fresh out of a beehive! :D

This is my order of Milky Cube @ RM13 which is a cup of Korean soft-serve ice cream that comes with natural honeycomb.  Yes, it's a very expensive cup of ice cream...and a pretty small cup at that!! :'(  [#Note: For me, even if it's expensive, I'd still try it...at least once!]

The soft-serve ice cream tasted like any other soft-serve ice cream to me (but, then again, I don't eat much ice cream) except, at the back of my mind, I know that they're made with organic milk.  So, when my nephew commented that some of his friends say that, after the first couple of spoonfuls, it tastes just like McD ice cream...kekeke....and (maybe) they're not totally wrong in saying that! :D  Ok, ok...I can also feel some people rolling their eyes at this remark.  But, hey....to each his own!

[#Note: It's probably like eating organic fruits and vegetables or organic anything, there's really no difference in taste except you know that they're healthier (and more premium), that's all!  Of course, some will swear that organic produce tastes better but (honestly) I can't taste the difference.  For me, organic produce stores better and has a longer shelf life plus we know it's nutritionally better...that's the main reason why I buy them in the first place (sometimes).]

As for me, I found the ice cream (which had a drizzle of natural liquid honey), though respectable, to be slightly on the sweet side....and not enough to make me go 'gaga' over it like a kid in a candy store! :D

The Milky Cube is served with a cube of natural honeycomb which was incredibly sweet (for my taste buds) and, when you bite into a bit of the honeycomb, it has this semi-hard sticky-sweet texture (much like a pc of candy nearing its end).

My Personal Opinion

I wasn't 'wowed' by Milkcow's ice cream to say the least.....but I did go 'wow' at the price!  Combining the natural honey chip and the organic milk ice cream made it both sweet and delicious for many (I'm sure)...but, for me, it was sweet (the honeycomb) on sweet (the soft-serve ice cream)!!

So, it's unlikely that I would want to try the other combinations....hey, I'm a 'sweet' gal at heart *wink wink* but this "sugar, oh, honey, honey".....is just too sweet for me :(

  1. If they don't do it sweet, cannot appeal to the masses. It is hard to survive on only health minded people's business especially if you are selling ice cream hahaha..

    1. You're spot on....they can't really cater to the minority who have a low sugar tolerance as the masses will want it sweet.

  3. Goodness, so expensive! But I would satisfy my curiosity too at least once. Since it is too sweet for you, I reckon it would be the same for me. So, I'll just save my money hah..hah...

    1. Hey, don't take my word for it (on the sweetness level)...try it at least once, maybe the other combos are not as sweet?

  4. i like your explanation for why milkcow didn't quite deliver for you ... yeah, it's a good reminder that taste is subjective, and we can't blame others for liking/disliking the stuff that we dislike/like :) personally i was pleasantly surprised by milkcow ... we ordered only one serving at first, but we liked it so much, we ordered a few more. the texture and flavours just work for me, but ya, i've noticed that opinions are very much split on milkcow ... many of us love it, many others don't :)

    1. I'm happy that you found this to your liking....I did like the texture and flavour but it was just too sweet for me (as I have a lower sugar tolerance level than the masses). Hey, God made us all unique and different...so, it's ok if we have different tastes and likings :D

  6. Happy New Year to you and your family too!

I saw the queue at MilkCow when I went to Cold Storage the other day but I did not even bother to find out what food product MilkCow is selling. So it is ice cream.

I don't think I will try this ice cream because for this price, I would rather go for Kindori or Moo Cow Frozen Yogurt which I like because they are not that sweet.

Since this is very sweet for you, I guess it will be killer sweet for me so thanks for the review. You saved me from trying this. :D

    1. Yes, this will be very sweet for you....but looking at the queue, this is the what the masses like. Maybe you can try the basic one, just the organic soft serve ice cream without any toppings, to limit the sweetness.
