Favourite 'Nice Eats' of 2014

Since I started blogging a year ago, I've eaten at quite a few different places...some new, some old and some that I've been frequenting regularly even before I started food blogging.  There were also places which I wouldn't have normally ventured into if I was not writing a food blog.  But, having said that (and if you have read my preamble), you'd know that my blog is not about how many places I've eaten or how many new eateries I've tried but more about the food that I like to eat (and the food that I can afford on my budget).  Although, at times, I did wish that I had a 'bigger' wallet! :D

With the dawn of a new year, I'm going to do a recap of my favourite eats in 2014 (in the month of January).  Notice that I use the word 'favourite eats' and not 'best eats' coz I'm no authority on knowing the best eats out there if I've not eaten everything (or that many)...kekeke!!

This series of posts will flag off with my favourite 'nice eats' of 2014, the definition of which, in my context, refers to food that is slightly 'upmarket' in price in a nice and somewhat elegant restaurant.

The Fried Calamari is cooked just right...soft (not chewy) but yet crunchy.

The Tenderloin Steak Set that came with an appetiser, soup, salad and dessert (that's not the run-of-the-mill type of sides) were matched perfectly with the well executed tenderloin.
The Teriyaki Salmon Fillet was delicious in an amazing, tantalising sauce.

The Honey Glazed Fillet of Cod is a super fresh, super delicate piece of cod, in a simply divine mushroom and blue lobster sauce.  A great place for fresh seafood!
The Cold Cut Platter of paper-thin slices of cured meat (rare roast beef, turkey salami, turkey chorizo and beef cecina) eaten with their renowned sourdough bread was pleasurable in all its salty goodness.

Their Josper Oven specialities are to die for...like this JO Tenderloin that was served with a great sear on the outside while the meat remained tender and juicy on the inside.  The porcini mushroom sauce was excellent (although the meat tastes just as great eaten on its own).  No wonder it's a popular haunt for steaks :)

The JO Salmon too was fantastic and cooked to perfection...with a crispy skin and the inside still pink.
This 'nibbles and bites' dish of Popcorn Prawns was what I loved the most here...crispy, crunchy battered prawns (and prawn heads) with a spiced aoili.  The prawn heads were little morsels of utter bliss...more heads, please! :D

Although this Wagyu Tenderloin is considered cheap by normal standards (since it's from a grocer and not a restaurant), it was still tender and flavourful...and good enough (in my books).  Great for those who want a no-frills piece of good steak but at a price that won't break the bank ;)
Enjoyed the mildly sweet and crunchy Jumbo Coconut Shrimps and the crumbly-cheesy-buttery-fresh-off-the-oven Cheddar Bay Biscuits.

Although the Grilled Maine Lobster Tail may not be as fresh and good as the live ones, but they're not half bad for the prices we paid.
The perfectly cooked Black Angus was top-notch in all its 'naked' glory and the charred sides emitted a tremendous smoky aroma and flavour to the meat...absolutely delish!

From the above list, you can pretty guess what's on the very top of my list of favourite foods to eat ;)

And there you have it.....a round up of my favourite 'nice eats' of 2014...with (hopefully) more to come in 2015 (as much or as little as my wallet can tolerate)!

    1. Thanks...yeah, it's fun reflecting back. Yes, you are indeed lucky to have been invited to eat at so many different places (and countries). I'm not as fortunate but I'm still happy to go on a ride to so many beautiful countries and so much exquisite food through your blog.
