Espressolab @ Great Eastern Mall

Espressolab focusses on serving delicious coffees sourced from all around the world, ranging from Ethiopia, Columbia, Brazil, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Bolivia, Costa Rica and many more.

They have many retail outlets in leading shopping malls in the city.  I usually go to Espressolab @ Great Eastern Mall when I need to visit the pet store to get my cat's favourite snack.  What better opportunity to sit down to have a good cup of coffee when I'm here (and more so) with a couple of discount vouchers on hand.

The Iced Caramel Macchiato @ RM15, with a slight chocolaty flavour, was everything you'd want in a glass of iced coffee.  Espressolab makes a fine glass of coffee.

This was my Piccolo Latte @ RM10 with a slight bitter aftertaste, but still good, coz I added only a sprinkle of brown sugar.  [#Note: Didn't know what a Piccolo Latte was until I googled it.  It's basically a ristretto shot topped with warm milk and served in a small latte glass...in other words, a baby latte.]  Hey, since it's a baby latte, that means you can have 2 different cups of coffee in one sitting...sweet!

The Tuna Delight Sandwich @ RM15 was a sandwich of tuna filling with mayo (and cheese).  The bread was toasted to a surprisingly crisp texture but I wished I had known that it came with cheese so that I could tell them to omit it (as it's not very common, at least not to me, for a tuna sandwich to come with cheese).  Also, I expected more tuna for a RM15 tuna sandwich than what was given...the mayo was aplenty but the tuna was scarce.  The dressing for the greens, which looked like thousand island dressing, was unusually tart.  Unfortunately, the tuna delight was more of a tuna disappointment!

My Iced Mocha @ RM15 (a combination of espresso and chocolate) had a good dose of chocolaty flavour to it with bits of chocolate floating around.  If you're a chocolate freak, you can order the Iced Chocolate which has an even higher dose of chocolate.  Though I'm not a big fan of chocolate, I must say I truly enjoyed this one.

The Affogato @ RM14 came with steamed milk (at the bottom), a shot of hot espresso (in the middle) and a scoop (and a half?) of vanilla ice cream (on top).  I don't necessarily like espresso that much as it's too strong and bitter for my taste but with ice cream to cut through the bitterness, I'm ok with it.

Mmmm...let the ice cream melt into some creamy deliciousness.  It had a strong coffee aroma but not overly bitter.  The affogato was super duper good!

[#Story:  During one of my visits here, something amusing happened at the next table...there were these 2 Japanese ladies (enjoying their breakfast and cup of coffee) who asked if there's a refill of their coffee.  For a cup of coffee that costs more than RM10...what in the world made them think it can be refilled...it's not green tea, you know...or mass produced coffee in a pot!!]

My Personal Opinion

Espressolab's tagline says it all.....Just.Good.Coffee!

Stick with what they're good at...and that's coffee.  They do indeed serve up a cup (or glass) of excellent coffee.  I just love the rich aroma and deep flavours (without it being overly bitter).  The food seems to be an afterthought (for coffee lovers who need a bite of food at the same time).

If Espressolab can't churn up a good cup of espresso, I get......depress...o!!  Luckily, that isn't the case here!

  1. I think I have seen this outlet in the Gardens mall walkway to Midvalley. Coffee is not my thing. Imagine if my spouse gets cheese in his sandwich without warning he would literally die and not eat it.

    1. You can find them in many places. I'm a coffee addict and I can't get by without a cup a day!

  2. That looks an awesome place. I'm gonna try to visit it. I'm pretty sure me and my friends are going to love it. Check out the Shops in Circuit Makati, you'll love it too. Anyway, Thanks for sharing!
